6. Resistance training- many women think that weight training will make their bodies bulking. This is a myth, in fact weight training for women is one the best things they can do to lose belly fat naturally since it increases lean muscle. Every time you increase your muscle you increase your metabolism.
The fat doesn’t just sit there. It’s an active part of your body, making “lots of nasty substances,” says Kristen Hairston, MD, assistant professor of endocrinology and metabolism at Wake Forest School of Medicine.
“Pouring a glass of wine as large as Olivia Pope’s to watch her on “Scandal” is a mistake,” offers Bedwell. And boy, does she have that one right. “The recommended alcohol consumption for women is one (5-ounces, so much less than a typical Olivia pour) glass per day, with good reason. Each glass has roughly 120 calories, and your body burns calories from alcohol first to get it out of your system as fast as possible. That means any calories you consume from food get put on the back-burner, making it harder to shed unwanted pounds,” she explains. “Not to mention that alcohol tends to stimulate the appetite so that Olivia Pope-sized glass of wine may be making you consume more calories from [whatever you’re eating].”
Choose vigorous exercise. When it comes to burning body fat, not every exercise is created equal. For the next 2 weeks, choose high-intensity workouts like running, swimming laps, road cycling, rowing or boot camp over easy to moderate exercise.
Your belly fat only wins when you give up on getting rid of it. Being persistent is a very natural trait. Nature is very persistent, time keeps on going no matter what, and over time if you neglect your belly fat the problem will only get worse. That’s why it’s good to be just as persistent as nature, and take steps each day to eat the right foods, get a bit of activity, be happy, and nourish yourself. As you do these little things each day, they will accumulate as more and more time passes. It’s natural for things to take time to work, which is why you want to avoid fast track promises and gimmicks to lose belly fat, because in all likelihood it will just backfire and you’ll be back at square one trying to start all over again.
What it gets down to is, avoid processed stuff, and don’t be afraid of eggs, cheese, butter, and the like. I’ve dropped 30 pounds in a couple of months by drinking raw goat milk, a cup or two a day, little to no exercise (I have ankle issues due to a club foot, though no doubt as I lose the weight there’ll be less stress on it). If you can cut sugar and avoid the processed stuff, that’s huge right there.
“You can do 50,000 crunches a day, but it will still only be toned muscles under your belly fat,” says Lauren Harris-Pincus, MS, RDN and owner of Nutrition Starring You. “The truth is, unless the weight comes off, you’re not going to get a six-pack.”
Drinking excess alcohol can cause you to gain belly fat — the beer belly. However, beer alone isn’t to blame. Drinking too much alcohol of any kind can increase belly fat, because alcohol contains calories. Although some research suggests wine might be an exception, if you drink alcohol, do so only in moderation.
That’s exactly what happened when last summer I shared Zero Belly Diet with a test panel of more than 500 people, some of whom lost as much as 16 pounds in just 14 days, and up to three inches off their waist. The secret to Zero Belly Diet is the new science of nutritional genetics, the study of how our genes are turned on and off by the foods we eat. Simply making a handful of tweaks to your diet and lifestyle can help improve your gut health, dampen inflammation, turn off your fat genes and start your body shedding fat—in particular, belly fat—almost automatically.
The real monster is the fat in the abdominal cavity, also known as belly fat. Not only does it bring you health problems, but also it is one of the most difficult types of fat to get rid of. However, you can get rid of it injust a single night.

Zero Belly Diet panelist Martha Chesler did just this as part of her Zero Belly program, and the results were astonishing. “I saw changes immediately,” she reports. In less than six weeks on the program, Martha dropped over 20 pounds and an astonishing seven inches from her middle by combining the Zero Belly Foods with a pre-breakfast walk.

In order to reduce inflammation in the body and help prevent insulin resistance, heart disease and specifically metabolic syndrome, you can make sure you intake enough of omega 3 essential fatty acids (166, 167, 168, 169).

We’ve all been there: Staring at the cookies and knowing we should eat the yogurt in the refrigerator instead. They’re the same number of calories, so what’s the difference, right? Surprisingly, a ton, especially if you’re hoping to shed belly fat from your frame. While there’s no magic bullet for weight loss, eating the following foods will definitely help.
Not only do they help you to build calorie-burning muscle mass, meats like chicken or turkey breast, fish, buffalo, and other wild game actually require our bodies to work harder in order to break them down during digestion. Furthermore, lean protein sources are much less likely to be stored as fat in our bodies and far more likely to be converted into energy for immediate use.
It’s a well-known fact that simple carbohydrates like white sugar and the corn syrup found in many commercial soft drinks is a leading cause of weight-gain, particularly around the midsection. However, less known is the fact that many sugar substitutes contain chemicals that – when ingested – are stored in and preserve your fat cells (as well as a long list of other health detriments!) For an all-natural alternative to sugar, try adding Stevia to your food. This leaf extract has virtually no calories and is of harmful chemicals found in most sugar substitutes. While refined Stevia is widely available in most grocery stores, whole leaf offers more health benefits!
3. Snack smarter. Snack foods like pretzels and crackers are carbs that don’t do you any favors. Skip these easily over-consumed carbohydrates (even the whole grain ones) and snack on 1oz of macadamia nuts (10-12 kernels). Macadamia nuts are packed with monounsaturated fats, and research consistently finds nuts to be a superior snack for weight loss and heart health than pretzels or similar snack foods.
Hey Jp… bottom line I believe that you can make most any workout very effective. Just remember one word… intensity. The intensity and focus you workout with is more important than they type of exercise in my book.
Answer: Sirloin burger Restaurant turkey burgers are often made with dark meat and the skin, so they’re not necessarily better for you (and for the record, they aren’t low-fat). You can get a sirloin burger that’s 95% lean meat and gives you 20 g of protein. Just be careful with the toppings.
Hey Anne – I never count calories. I eat until I’m satisfied. In my opinion calorie counting is ridiculous (reason is that all calories are not created equal)… it works for about 5 percent of people because it’s just too damn confusing. Bottom line… eat the right foods that actually aid your fat loss and you’ll lose fat. Make sense?

Moderate exercisers who stocked up on the antioxidants found in green tea, called catechins, were more likely to lose belly fat while exercising than those who didn’t take them. One study put the daily dose at 625 mg, the equivalent of two or three eight-ounce cups of green tea. (Follow these steps to make the perfect cup of tea.)
For men age 65 and younger, moderation means up to two drinks a day. For men older than age 65, it means up to one drink a day. The less you drink, the fewer calories you’ll consume and the less likely you’ll be to gain belly fat.
2. Ab Plank is a great exercise to really challenge your entire core and build up your strength and endurance. The Plank works the lower abdomens, the oblique muscles and your lower back. It takes focus and concentration plus some upper body strength. Start with holding the plank position for 30- 40 seconds and build your way up. You will be amazed at how strong your cores will get by doing this exercise regularly.
Try a core class. Pilates, barre, core burning classes and some yoga styles focus on building your stomach and back muscles. Building these muscles through special exercises, in addition to weightlifting, will help you burn more fat each week.
Weight loss is a mathematical equation: you simply need to take in fewer calories (of whatever you prefer to eat) than you use each day. So, yes, you could still lose weight. That said, you won’t be a healthy “thin” if you don’t nourish your body with good, whole foods, including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Plus, fruits and veggies aid in weight loss by helping you to feel full (taking up the space in your stomach you might be tempted to devote to less healthy options).
