Berries are packed with polyphenol antioxidants that will help burn fat—and prevent it from forming—as well as boost your workout benefits by improving blood flow to your muscles. According to a Texas Woman’s University study, mice that ate three daily servings of berries had 73 percent fewer fat cells. Pop some of the blue guys into your next smoothie and boost the fat-burning potential: blueberries are a potent source of resveratrol, an antioxidant which has been shown to convert excess harmful white fat in mice into calorie-burning beige fat, which correlated with a 40 percent decreased risk for obesity. And when it comes to the sugar content in fruit, berries rank favorably on the list but are still a powerful way to curb cravings for sweets.
If all you did was Steps 2-thru-4 all you’d get is a less bloated belly, better posture, firmer Abs and a slightly flatter stomach but you’d be frustrated because you’d still have belly fat but on the other hand…

Many teas have been shown to boost metabolism, block the creation of new fat cells, speed the release of fat from cells, and actually turn off fat genes due to their catechin levels, but green tea has a leg up on the competition. This magical elixir is particularly high in the antioxidant ECGC, the compound that burns fat and stops it from forming. Pair your tea with a workout for a fat-burning bonus. Exercisers who drank four to five cups of green tea daily and worked out for 25 minutes lost more belly fat than their non-tea-drinking counterparts, a study published in The Journal of Nutrition found.

Ladies, channel that mindfulness from the yoga mat and bring it to the dinner table (okay, coffee table). When you’re scarfing down lo mein with a fork, you’re probably eating a heck of a lot quicker than you would be if you opted for chopsticks. Navigating the ramen bowl or sushi roll with chopsticks will help slow you down, which in turn promotes eating more mindfully and can make it so you consume fewer calories. No chopsticks? Try eating dinner with your non-dominant hand holding your fork, which will produce a similar slow-down effect. For more easy tweaks to make, take a peek at the 42 Ways to Lose 5 Inches of Belly Fat.

You don’t have to go low-carb to ditch those extra pounds around your waist in a short period of time. In fact, opting for more whole grains might just get you there faster. Researchers at Tufts University have linked eating three or more daily servings of whole grains to as much as a 10 percent reduction in visceral body fat, the kind that ups your risk for chronic diseases, like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.
Several key factors are to blame for such high rates of unhealthy weight gain around the belly (visceral fat), obesity and becoming overweight, including less activity, eating more processed foods, dining out more, lack of sleep, toxicity and increased stress.
Add low-fat milk to your morning cereal and you may have a belly-busting win. Diets high in calcium-containing foods have been linked with healthier body weight. Plus, the minerals found in dairy products — calcium, potassium and magnesium — can help to counterbalance bloat-inducing sodium.
Oats are high in fiber, which means stomach is fuller for longer, reducing appetite and thereby decreasing calorie intake help. Furthermore, oats are easy to digest, particularly if soaked overnight, which helps reduce bloating. Oats are relatively high in protein and rich in B Vitamins and minerals. Just add cinnamon for extra effect. A Scandinavian study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that 3 grams of cinnamon sprinkled over cereal resulted in less insulin being produced after eating. Since insulin is a hormone that turns excess sugar into fat, decreased insulin levels also means less weight gain. What’s more, cinnamon is also thought to slow down stomach emptying, which means you feel fuller for longer.
Can you please help me? I am 23 years old, 5’5, and weigh about 125 pounds. I am not fat, nor do I appear fat. But, I do have a pudge on my belly. It’s the one that forms two rolls when I sit. I can easily get away with this by sucking my stomach in, but I just want to have a completely flat stomach without having to suck in my gut. I am not overeating. I have eliminated as much sugar from my diet as possible. When I try to workout, I always feel like I’m not getting anywhere. For example, I’ve tried to run back and forth on my lot. I did that a few times and stopped. I wasn’t sure if it would be effective. What can I do to get rid of my gut by December? Your response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

While you’ll need a well balanced diet to lose belly fat, you should zero in on three key nutrients — calcium, protein and fiber — as your fat-burning triple threat. Why’s that? Protein and fiber both make your food harder to break down, so you’ll burn more calories during digestion than if you eat foods low and protein and fiber. This is one of the only ways to really boost your metabolism, so make the most of it!
Eating the appropriate foods every day is important to maintaining your flat belly for good. So, in addition to following my flat-belly principles in the preceding section, you also need to try to incorporate the following foods daily:
Great skin is the foundation of looking good. Harsh chemical peels and under-the-knife surgeries are giving way to kinder and gentler treatments, and new advances in laser and light therapy offer non-intrusive alternatives for a variety of skin conditions
Fennel, peppermint, and ginger have all been shown in research studies to have calming effects on the belly. They work by enhancing digestive enzymes so your food gets moved through your system faster. And faster-moving food means a flatter tummy. In addition, peppermint reduces cramping and gas, ginger helps with nausea and inflammation, and fennel is a diuretic to help you stop retaining water. Here are other home remedies to help an upset stomach.
Research also shows that fasted training increases blood flow to the abdominal region, which further helps burn belly fat away (the better the blood flow to a region, the more catecholamines can reach it).
Each slice of grapefruit you add to your salad acts like a match to spark your body’s fat-burning ability. A study published in the journal Metabolism found that those who ate grapefruit for six weeks lost a full inch off their waistlines. What’s behind the belt-tightening effect? The fruit is rich in phytochemicals, bioactive compounds that recent research shows stimulate the production of a hormone called adiponectin, which is involved in the breakdown of body fat. Other research suggests the juicy fruit can “turn on” calorie-burning brown fat cells, promoting the breakdown of body fat while reducing appetite.

The Flat Belly Diet has little research out on its effectiveness. Of the studies that can be found, the weight loss success seems to be in line with the Mediterranean Diet, which is what the Flat Belly Diet is sort of modeled after. While the Flat Belly Diet does seem as though it might work for a short-term weight loss solution, the long-term effectiveness is in doubt.*
This traditional breakfast food is a great addition to your weight loss journey because of its soluble fiber content. In fact, oats prevent obesity and abdominal fat distribution and improve liver function in humans (4).
