Your phone, tablet, and television may be affecting your waist size in more ways that one. Obviously if you’re sitting on electronics then you’re not moving around and burning calories. But the effects go beyond just energy. Blue light from electronic screens can disrupt your circadian rhythms; so our addiction to electronics is reducing our sleep as people favor Netflix-bingeing to bed. Both of these effects have been linked to higher levels of belly fat.

Exercises targeting the belly are not enough to help you lose belly fat. You cannot target fat loss; you cannot lose fat from one specific area by thinking about it. It’s like saying you don’t want to drive to where you’re going you want to teleport there. It’s not going to happen. Sit-ups, crunches and core work are not going to miraculously blast belly fat. If it did, a lot less people, would have a belly. Exercises like crunches do not target belly fat, they target belly muscle (i.e. abs). They will make your muscles bigger, but that helps little if they are hiding beneath a layer of fat. However, once you’ve lost the belly fat, those exercises will pay off. But, the first step is to lose belly fat.

You needn’t exercise a world full of self-control while on any proven diet plan – just add some complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, bulgur wheat, couscous, dark bread, and cereal fiber to your diet. By adding whole grains to your daily diet, you automatically reduce your intake of other food types because whole grains are filled with fiber that give you a feeling of satiation and are more difficult to digest. This means you feel full for longer and eventually eat less.

Honey and Cinnamon – While you’re working hard to shed the unwanted pounds, honey and cinnamon combination can assist you in several ways – read about them in my article about delicious honey and cinnamon weight loss drink.

Consuming ginger can help bring the internal balance back in tune and promote well-being and weight loss. Ginger’s sharp, distinctive flavor can also help naturally boost your energy levels, both physically and mentally.

Reduce stress and you reduce cortisol. Turn to alternative remedies like yoga, meditation and exercise to help calm your mind. You can also decrease cortisol by eliminating or reducing the consumption of alcohol and eating whole foods.

Out-of-whack hormones have all kinds of uncomfortable side effects and belly bloat is one of them. There’s a reason that bloating is one of the primary complaints women have during menopause! While you can’t turn back the clock and reclaim the hormone profile of your 20’s, you can make sure you’re within the normal range—something your doctor can check for you. (Before your appointment, know these signs of a thyroid disorder). In the meantime, eating right and exercising are natural ways to balance your hormones.

Appetite hormones, including ghrelin and leptin, control how hungry or satisfied we feel before, after and between eating. Eating chemically altered foods (which spike cravings), repeat yo-yo dieting, crash dieting, genetic factors and stress can all interfere with appetite regulation.

I have tried to get rid of the belly fat for a long time. And I gotta say, the water and tea are the best ways to do that. I just drink at list 2l of water a day, and every morning before breakfast I make a green tea…. really helps! I didn’t have habit of drinking water that much before

Haven’t given it up Diane… actually eat about 3 cups per day currently. I go through “spurts” of diet changes. Right now I am training quite hard (weights, sprinting, etc) so my body really responds to elevated carb intake. Oatmeal is perfect for this for me. Probably not everyone, but for me personally I love the stuff.

Like other fruits, berries are high in water and fiber, which can keep you full longer. They’re also sweet, satisfying your sweet tooth for a fraction of the calories you would get from cookies or brownies. Blueberries are a good example because most stores carry them and they’re loaded with antioxidants.

But even if that type of workout isn’t to your liking, it’s key to find some kind of workout you enjoy and that you want to do regularly. I highly recommend weightlifting for fat loss because it’s a proven way to create more muscle; more muscle means your body will burn more calories (increasing your metabolic rate), and those calories will funnel into your muscle stores rather than your fat cells.

Surprised? Although olive oil contains fat, it actually contains a type of healthy fat that has been found to decrease levels of fat-storing inflammation. According to a review published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, a polyphenol only found in unrefined extra virgin olive oil—oleocanthal—reduces inflammation in a similar way that ibuprofen does: it prevents the production of two pro-inflammatory enzymes, COX-1 and COX-2.
