Apple cider vinegar is a great way to kick-start your metabolism and get belly fat moving. The acetic acid in the vinegar produces proteins that can help you burn up fat stores. With stress and the resulting increase in cortisol secretion, your body starts to produce more insulin as you age, since your muscle and fat cells aren’t responding to the increased levels of cortisol properly. With the increase in insulin comes fat storage, especially around your belly. A diet high in protein may protect you against insulin resistance, thus decreasing belly fat.
In a study commissioned by Prevention magazine, researchers tracked nine overweight women who were following the Flat Belly Diet. After 28 days, visceral belly fat mass had shrunk by an average of 33 percent. (Visceral belly fat, which lies deep inside the abdomen, surrounds the internal organs; having too much increases the risk of serious health problems, such as heart disease and Type 2 diabetes.) Participants also lost an average of 8.4 pounds and 2 inches off their waist during the study period, according to findings published in the February 2009 issue of Prevention.
To eat generously does not have to mean to eat irresponsibly. The important thing to remember is to eat natural and nutrient-dense foods as well as whole foods that the body understands how to use to properly. Below are some examples:
2. Sit like a royal. Slumping accentuates your stomach. To improve your posture while sitting, start with your chair. If your chair seat is too high to let your feet touch the ground without slumping, find a footstool about 4 inches high to let you sit up straight. Or place a pillow at the small of your back to help bring you forward in your chair.[pagebreak]
Incorporate interval training into workouts. Intervals alternate short bursts of higher-intensity activity with recovery periods of lighter activity. Your heart rate and breathing increase during the intense period, which raises the metabolism to burn more calories. Allowing periods of less-vigorous activity in between hard intervals allows your heart rate and breathing to return to normal, which means you can work out longer to burn more calories and lose belly fat. Try an interval running workout by running hard for one minute followed by two minutes of easier jogging. Repeat the sequence five to 10 times and be sure to include warmup and cool-down periods to avoid injury.
Sleep is one of the most important aspects of your overall health and wellbeing, especially when it comes to managing your weight. In one 16-year study, it was shown that women who slept for less than five hours a night were significantly more likely to gain weight around their bellies than those who slept seven hours or more.
4. Snacking is something everyone does, but you can snack healthier. Instead of chips or chocolate, head to the fruit and veggie aisle. Celery and baby carrots make a good snack. Also, apples and grapes, for a lower cost or try granola. And instead of processed sugar try honey or agave.
Eat a healthy diet. Emphasize plant-based foods, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Choose lean sources of protein such as fish and low-fat dairy products. Limit saturated fat, found in meat and high-fat dairy products, such as cheese and butter. Also limit processed meats. Choose moderate amounts of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats — found in fish, nuts and certain vegetable oils — instead.
Hi Adrian I recently had a baby.(4 months ago) I went back to my pre pregnancy weight as soon as I delivered. My height is 5’4 and weight is 112lbs. People who are on the Flat Belly Diet will lose weight, but most of it will be water weight. And while the Mediterranean-style diet is healthy, long-term weight loss will also need to involve exercise, lifestyle adjustments, and perhaps working with a nutritionist, particularly if you are someone who needs fewer or more than 1,600 calories.
2. Boxing: I let my clients do boxing as I feel that it’s a great way to pump up your heart rate and increase sweating. Higher the heart rate the more calories they’ll be burning. Usually I instruct my clients to do one minute of punches or combinations usually on boxing pads but can also be done on a punch bag followed by 30 seconds rest. Usually I repeat this exercise several times until my clients are fit. Then I let them hold the plank in between rounds as an active rest.
And if you like what you see and decide to support my work…you’re awesome. 🙂 It’s because of people like you that I get to spend my time writing articles like this that help others get into the best shape of their lives.
This 32-day plan includes a “Four Day Anti-Bloat Jumpstart” followed by a 4-week program. The jump start banishes caffeine and most sources of sodium from the diet to help promote a loss of water weight. The four-day meal plan is made up of low-fat foods, a minimal amount of starchy carbs and lots of lean protein and fruits and vegetables. Dieters must also guzzle “Sassy Water,” a concoction of water flavored with ginger, lemon, cucumber and mint created by contributing dietitian Cynthia Sass.

A 2016 study in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology that analyzed data from PREDIMED – a five-year trial including 7,447 adults with Type 2 diabetes or at risk for cardiovascular disease who were assigned either a Mediterranean diet supplemented with olive oil, the same diet supplemented with nuts or a control diet – found that people on the Mediterranean versions added the fewest inches to their waistlines. The olive oil folks lost the most weight.
Obese people who consumed a tablespoon or two of vinegar daily for eight weeks showed significant decreases in body fat, particularly visceral fat, according to a 2009 Japanese study. “One theory is that the acetic acid in the vinegar produces proteins that burn up fat,” explains Pamela Peeke, professor of medicine at the University of Maryland and author of Fight Fat After 40.
Reduce stress and you reduce cortisol. Turn to alternative remedies like yoga, meditation and exercise to help calm your mind. You can also decrease cortisol by eliminating or reducing the consumption of alcohol and eating whole foods.
