Wheatgrass has a high concentration of iron, magnesium, calcium, amino acids, vitamins C, A and E, B12, B6 and chlorophyll. These vitamins and minerals provide many therapeutic benefits. Consuming wheatgrass can rid the digestive system of harmful bacteria and cleanse the body of toxins. It also cleanses the colon and can help in the treatment of joint pain, ulcerative colitis, skin infections and can even prevent diabetes. No wonder it is regarded as a superfood!
Oatmeal has three things going for it: fiber-rich whole-grain oats, lots of water, and it’s hot. It’s a very filling combination. Hot food takes longer to eat, and all that liquid and fiber will help you feel full longer. Avoid super-sugary oatmeal. Stirring in cinnamon or nutmeg will give you a sweet taste with less sugar.
Breakfast: Leftover Quiche. Last night’s sweet potato quiche reheats beautifully for a quick breakfast you’ll look forward to all night (hint: save the recipe from dinner to make for an impressive brunch go-to!)
Your phone, tablet, and television may be affecting your waist size in more ways that one. Obviously if you’re sitting on electronics then you’re not moving around and burning calories. But the effects go beyond just energy. Blue light from electronic screens can disrupt your circadian rhythms; so our addiction to electronics is reducing our sleep as people favor Netflix-bingeing to bed. Both of these effects have been linked to higher levels of belly fat.
Moreover, the discovery that obesity actually has health-related conditions like diabetes has jump-started a million-dollar industry on weight loss products. A study published in a 2014 issue of Diabetes discovered that overeating saturated fats caused more visceral fat development that eating too much unsaturated fat.
Probiotics may reduce the number of calories you absorb from food. They also affect hormones and proteins related to appetite and fat storage. They may also reduce inflammation, which can drive obesity.
You needn’t go down the route of plain, boring grilled chicken breast and steamed broccoli every night to lose belly fat. Make your dinners more interesting to increase dietary adherence. “Fitness” magazine suggests lean steak and pepper tacos, a shrimp and avocado rice bowl, a vegetarian pizza made with a thin whole-wheat crust, salmon with a yogurt and cucumber sauce, or a tagine for your evening meal. Again, aim for a high-protein meal, with moderate amounts of healthy fats and whole-grain carbohydrates.

Top your salad with this lean protein and soon enough all your friends will be asking you to tuna-round so they can compliment your new slimmed down look. As a primo source of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), canned light tuna is one of the best and most affordable sources of lean protein for fat loss, especially from your belly! One study in the Journal of Lipid Research showed that omega-3 fatty acid supplementation had the profound ability to turn off abdominal fat genes. Other studies have found that omega-3s increase lipolysis (the breakdown of fats) so you lose fat instead of storing it.
Protein (P) and vegetables (V) add a high-powered hunger-suppressing punch with little insulin production. This means less calories and better hormone balance. Sleep (Sl) magnifies this effect by lowering cortisol and increasing human growth hormone (HGH) — a fat burning and muscle building hormone. Throw in intense exercise (IE) that favors weight and interval training (more HGH and testosterone) over long duration cardio (more cortisol), and you start seeing the butter drip off.
These days, getting rid of belly fat can be achieved by means other than the traditional cardio, calorie counting, yoga for belly fat and portion control. It is now believed that getting rid of belly fat can be achieved by relaxing and shrinking the stomach, drinking a little wine, and eating complex carbohydrates. Let’s look at 6 ways to get rid of stomach or belly fat without exercise.
Hi Vicky, the best workout for losing weight is a combination of cardio workout (aerobics) and resistance workout (such as weights, bands, your own body weight). Cardio is any movement that gets your heart rate up and increases blood circulation. Most people exercising cardio are using it to burn off excess calories, but there are various forms of exercising cardio, and vigorous cardio is not necessarily one of them. You can do a milder form of aerobics, for example walking but not very fast, or if you go to the gym, the aerobics machines have adjustable levels from easy to hard. You can only do what you can do and you need to adjust the level to your ability (for example shorter walk at a slower pace). If there are times when you cannot do aerobics at all, concentrate on resistance workout. The benefits of resistance workout include improved muscle strength and tone, healthy weight, increased bone density and strength. As you gain muscle, your body burns more calories when at rest. Again, adjust the level of resistance to your abilities and don’t over-do it to avoid extra stress on the body. You can find exercises that you can do at home in my website, for example, exercises for tummy, back, butt and legs and more (use the “search” option).
More than half of American women feel like they’re not getting enough sleep, according to a survey conducted by the Better Sleep Council. And this lack of ZZZ’s can have serious consequences—especially if you’re trying to lose fat. A study in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that women who slept five or fewer hours per night were 32 percent more likely to experience major weight gain over 16 years than those who got more sleep. Plus, according to a study from the New York Obesity Nutrition Research Center, when women got four hours of sleep instead of eight, they consumed more than 300 extra calories a day, mostly from fatty foods. Why? Too little sleep causes an increase in a hormone called ghrelin that stimulates appetite. (Here’s more on why sleep is the most important thing for weight loss.)
Workout for 60-70 minutes a day in total and stay hydrated. During your exercise, include a 5 minute warm-up to slowly rise your heart rate, like a slow jog with a slowly accelerating pace. After, do 60 minutes of exercise to keep the heart rate up, you could do 2-3 different exercises. Finally do a 5-minute cool down to lower your heart rate like a jog turned into a walk.
2. Sweep: Start with basic abs tuck (standing crunch). For that you have to lift one knee using the abs, and bend the other knee to sit slightly on the ground. Bring the rib cage to the bellybutton so that the spine is in C-curve position. Simultaneously, squeeze the oblique on one side to crunch while reaching down for the opposite foot.

Natural yoghurt is rich in protein and makes an excellent snack. Just add a little honey, fruit or granola. Yoghurt contains lactobacillus bacteria, which are the “good” bacteria that improves intestinal function and nutrient absorption and reduces bloating. Furthermore, yogurt can help you not just reduce bloating, but also belly fat. A study from the University of Tennessee showed that people who ate yogurt, as part of their calorie controlled diet, lost more weight, lost more belly fat, lost more inches from around their weight and lost LESS muscle mass. Indeed, they recommended that dieters should eat 3 servings of fat-free or low-fat dairy products every day.
Pulses (or dal ) are protein-rich and low in calories and fat. The lean protein present in the dal helps build lean muscle mass, speeds up metabolism, and improves overall body functions. Simple boiled dal is healthier than fried or spiced up dal.

The problem with belly fat is that it doesn’t just make you look unattractive but it also increases* risk of many serious health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and diabetes. This is according to the American Heart Association. Even individuals who are at their healthy weight range are at risk if they have a lot of stored fat in the abdominal area. This is why you need to be proactive and lose* weight if you have a big waistline. Here are the things you can do to lose* weight and reduce* belly fat.
Your first step? Figure out an appropriate calorie intake target. You’ll want to eat slightly fewer calories than you burn daily to start torching body fat — about 500 to 1,000 calories fewer. That small calorie deficit allows you to burn fat, but it won’t generally trigger “starvation mode” that would lead to muscle loss over time.
“Eat as close to zero grams of sugar as possible. This will keep insulin levels low and also keep levels of glucagon high. Glucagon, a hormone, is the best friend you could ever have in the struggle for a flat belly! Picture Ms. Pac-Man traveling around your waistline, gobbling up fat to be used as energy. That is glucagon.
