Known as “forbidden rice” because only emperors were allowed to eat it, black rice may be the cheapest source of antioxidants around. According to the American Chemical Society, black rice has more antioxidants than a spoonful of blueberries, with more satiating fiber, more vitamin E, and less sugar. More antioxidants mean less inflammation, which means less fat storage for you.
Accidentally purchased this thinking it was the hardcover cookbook in paperback. (Checked out the hardcover cookbook from the library and loved it) The print for this paperback is so small I need to wear my cheater glasses and sadly NONE of the recipes I liked from the cookbook are in this book because it barely includes 1/4 of the recipes. I did like the added exercise program but the other 2/4 of the book is a waste of space. Hardcover cookbook is definitely a better choice if you’re interested. It explains the diet with less chapters and you can actually read it!

The Flat Belly Diet is one that will require a bit of an investment on your part. First and foremost, you have to obtain a copy of the Flat Belly Diet book, which will serve as your guide for the diet. This will cost you $15.99. Another part of the picture is sleep. I’ve written in the past about the dangers of sleep deprivation which one of them was weight gain. When we maintain enough hours of sleep we burn more calories. Recent studies (both in humans and animals) have linked insufficient sleep and a tendency to gain weight.
The bottom line is if you’re a guy over 10% body fat or a girl over 20%, you’re going to have a fair amount of belly fat to lose if you want to have skin-tight abs. That look requires 7 to 8% body fat in men and 17 to 18% in women. There’s just no way around it.
Great information in this book. It’s a lifestyle more than a diet. The gyst is that you eat healthy and regularly and moderately (400 calories a meal, 4 times a day) and add a monounsaturated fat to each meal. These are the good fats and they target your subcutaneous fat, otherwise known as your stomach flab. I like it because it’s not a diet about what you can’t eat. I’m already firmly in the eat moderately and healthy and exercise camp – no fad diets, you don’t need to eliminate food groups, e …more

Add low-fat dairy to your diet. Protein-rich Greek yogurt, skim milk and even low-fat cheese can make you feel full and reduce calcitriol, a hormone that increases fat storage. Eat at least 6 oz. of yogurt per day, choosing unsweetened or minimally sweetened products over sweeter versions.
Sunny side up, scrambled, hard-boiled, or fried—it doesn’t matter. A pan, spatula, and carton of eggs are all you need to fry some serious flab. Eggs are one of the best sources of choline, a major fat-burning nutrient that helps turn off the genes responsible for belly-fat storage. Bonus: eggs are a great source of lean protein, which can set the fat-burning pace for your entire day when eaten for breakfast. In a study of 21 men published in the journal Nutrition Research, half were fed a breakfast of bagels while half ate eggs. The egg group were observed to have a lower response to ghrelin, were less hungry three hours later and consumed fewer calories for the next 24 hours!
“Pouring a glass of wine as large as Olivia Pope’s to watch her on “Scandal” is a mistake,” offers Bedwell. And boy, does she have that one right. “The recommended alcohol consumption for women is (5-ounces, so much less than a typical Olivia pour) glass per day, with good reason. Each glass has roughly 120 calories, and your body burns calories from alcohol first to get it out of your system as fast as possible. That means any calories you consume from food get put on the back-burner, making it harder to shed unwanted pounds,” she explains. “Not to mention that alcohol tends to stimulate the appetite so that Olivia Pope-sized glass of wine may be making you consume more calories from [whatever you’re eating].”

Your lower belly may be pouching out because of under-developed abdominal muscles. Your transverse abdominis, a deep abdominal muscle that wraps around the torso, helps stabilizes your back and also pulls your waistline in, making you look smaller and your stomach flatter. While the Flat Belly Diet does seem as though it might work for a short-term weight loss solution, the long-term effectiveness is in doubt.*

Women who wake up and go to bed at the same time each evening have lower levels of body fat, according to a recent Brigham Young University study. Chaotic sleep habits cause your internal clock to go haywire, which in turn causes your body to secrete fat-storing hormones like cortisol. (Avoid these 10 more unhealthy weekend habits that set you up for a less-than-stellar week.)
In a study at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, rats on either high-fat or low-fat diets that got just 2% of their calories from blueberry powder for 90 days all lost abdominal fat, though the fat loss was greater in rats on the low-fat diet. Anthocyanins-phytonutrients in blueberries-may have an effect on genes that regulate fat metabolism, say researchers. They suggest that one cup of blueberries a day might have similar results in people.
All else being equal, whole grains are better than refined grains because they tend to be high in fiber and take longer to digest. This satisfies your hunger better and helps lower blood glucose levels and reduce fat.

A very important one is sleeping properly. A lack of sleep can cause fat to accumulate in the belly because your body doesn’t have time to digest the foods. Also, when you don’t sleep or when you stay up late, you are more likely to eat later on in the evening or snack.
