Are you committed to the work needed to lose belly fat? “Reducing belly fat takes a combination approach of a low-calorie diet that is high in fiber and low in carbohydrates and sugar along with cardiovascular and weight training,” Dr. Kashyap says. “If you are willing to do the work, you can move past genetics and lose it.”
Do high-intensity interval training (HIIT). This means you incorporate the act of sprinting during your cardio session for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Give yourself 2 to 4 minutes between sprints. Remember to include a 5-minute warm up and cool down where you remain at an easy to moderate intensity during your workout.
“Refined grains like white bread, crackers, and chips, as well as refined sugars in sweetened drinks and desserts increase inflammation in our bodies. Belly fat is associated with inflammation, so eating too many processed foods will hinder your ability to lose belly fat. Natural foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are full of antioxidants, which have anti-inflammatory properties and may therefore actually prevent belly fat.”
In a study published in the Journal of American College of Nutrition, 75 healthy overweight and obese individuals completed a randomized double-blind controlled clinical trial. Participants were randomly assigned to regular yogurt (200 g/day yogurt) with a low-calorie diet or a probiotic yogurt a day without the diet for 8 weeks. Researchers found that the probiotic yogurt in addition to a low-calorie diet had a positive effect on fat percentage, and body weight among overweight and obese individuals (3).
Research also has associated belly fat with an increased risk of premature death — regardless of overall weight. In fact, some studies have found that even when women were considered a normal weight based on standard body mass index (BMI) measurements, a large increased the risk of dying of cardiovascular disease.
A better and more effective way to lose belly fat? Weight training. Lifting weights creates micro-tears in muscle that take more energy (i.e. burn more calories) in the healing process, which can last up to two days after your training session. (See all the incredible health benefits of lifting weights.) In particular, research has found the most effective workout for fat loss is high-intensity interval training, or HIIT, which raises your heart rate while also taxing your muscles. In fact, one study from the United Kingdom found that sprint training helped study participants lose inches from their waist and hips after just two weeks on the program, while a University of Arkansas study found that people who exercised with high intensity experienced a 20 percent decrease in abdominal fat. (Fat loss isn’t the only health benefit of HIIT.)
Being physically active is a key in losing belly fat and should be combined with healthy nutrition. If you only eat foods that seem to target belly fat without exercising, you will see much slower results.
You will also pay $19.95 per month (or $49.50 for three months) for an online membership. Additionally, you have the cost of what you eat, which can get pricy with some of the ingredients you will need, such as olive oils and fresh fish.
Moreover, losing fat by starving yourself may not be the best idea either. Starvation, ironically, induces the body to store fat because it slows down the metabolism. If you have been reading up on weight loss, you would have stumbled upon the idea of a low calorie diet. Low-calorie diets are effective in losing abdominal fat; however, once the hunger pangs become a regular occurrence, the diet becomes difficult to maintain and at the first possible opportunity, binging can occur.
I’ve been fat/chubby since birth. I have been in and out of many diet programs. Some worked just for a few weeks only, very frustrating. What worked for me is the Banana Diet, with some variation. I started the diet February 18, 2009 and has maintained a good weight until now. Even if I have to eat bad sometimes, it’s so easy to lose weight again.
To trim your waistline, add whole grains to your diet. For example, choose brown or wild rice instead of white rice. Refined and other highly processed foods can contribute to weight gain and interfere with weight loss. A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionshowed that a calorie-controlled diet rich in whole grains can trim extra fat from the waistline of obese subjects.
It is up to you really! Whenever you feel works best for you and how you enjoy eating. If you like to enjoy lunch earlier on in the day, it may be best to enjoy the snack in between lunch and dinner, or some may prefer to leave snacks to later in the evening so they have it to look forward to.
There is also a lot of evidence that obesity is linked to inflammation in the brain. By improving gut health, probiotics may reduce systemic inflammation and protect against obesity and other diseases (17, 18).

If you’re not ready for a huge change in your diet, look elsewhere for weight loss. The extreme cut in calories in this diet is more likely to leave you discouraged instead of thinner. If you think you have it in you, go for it. Just have a plan in place for sticking with a more moderate weight loss plan in the long run.
As you get older, your body changes how it gains and loses weight. Both men and women experience a declining metabolic rate, or the number of calories the body needs to function normally. On top of that, women have to deal with menopause. “If women gain weight after menopause, it’s more likely to be in their bellies,” says Michael Jensen, MD, professor of medicine in the Mayo Clinic’s endocrinology division. In menopause, production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone slows down. Meanwhile, testosterone levels also start to drop, but at a slower rate. This shift in hormones causes women to hold onto weight in their bellies. The good news: you can fight this process. Read on.

Lunch: Salad in a Jar. Layer spinach leaves, chopped boiled egg, nuts, diced tomato, and grilled chicken in a jar for a salad that’s perfectly portable and perfectly tasty. Add olive oil and vinegar before eating.
Walnuts, soybeans, flaxseeds, and almonds are four of the best choices to help melt away stubborn belly fat. Just remember that nuts are also very high in calories. Be sure to limit yourself to the recommended serving size – usually a small handful – of these foods so you can reap the health benefits without accidentally sabotaging your weight-loss efforts.
Probiotics may reduce the number of calories you absorb from food. They also affect hormones and proteins related to appetite and fat storage. They may also reduce inflammation, which can drive obesity.
Even walking can be adjusted for an HIIT workout. Do 3 shorter, fast-paced interval walks (alternating faster walking with a few slower periods) and 2 walks at moderate intensity each week. You will burn 3 to 5 times more visceral (belly) fat.
Dark leafy greens are rich sources of fiber and health-promoting antioxidants. Low in calories and containing zero fat, these nutrient-rich vegetables can fill you up and help to decrease your cravings for more unhealthy foods, cites the USDA. Dark leafy greens include spinach, mustard greens, red leaf lettuce, collard greens, turnip greens and bok choy. Broccoli is another nutrient-rich vegetable.
Having capsaicin, hot peppers have thermogenic effects that could help boost the heat production of the human body, consuming more calories and energy. It is said that when the capsinoids are gotten every day, it can reduce the stomach fat and boost the fat oxidation. You had better add peppers cooked, raw, dried or in the powdered form in your gravies, soups, eggs and meats. It is okay to use red pepper, cayenne pepper, habanero pepper, or any other type for the fat burning purpose. Spice up the food with these peppers is one of home remedies to lose belly fat fast.
Don’t try to isolate the stomach muscles. Belly fat, like other body fat, cannot be spot reduced. Body fat will need to be removed with a combination of diet and exercise from all areas of your body where it is stored.
That old diet adage that only eating two meals a day will help you lose weight doesn’t ring true either – experts say missing a meal slows down your metabolism so the calories you are taking in aren’t used effectively.
Staying hydrated is crucial to the fat-burning process. Your body needs water to break down fat cells and wash away the toxins that are released during this process. Use this online calculator to see how much water your body needs in order to stay hydrated and burn belly fat.
Do you think that a slimming smoothie can very well fit into your diet but still want to respect the prerogatives of the Dukan diet, especially during the consolidation phase where you must alternate between vegetables and foods high in proteins such as lean meats.
3. Exercise Ball Crunch. This is one of the most effective ways to strengthen and flatten abs. Studies show this exercise is 40% more effective than regular ab crunches as it targets smaller muscles for flat toned abs including the oblique’s for a small waist and the outermost muscles that your typical ab crunch may miss. To begin, lie down on the ball positioning it under the lower back. Place arms behind your head. Tighten your abs as you lift your torso off the ball while keeping the ball stable. Lower back down and repeat 15 times with 1-3 sets.
