Hundreds of crunches are the answer, right?! Not so much. Jade Jenny, head coach and owner of Champlain Valley CrossFit says, “There are really no exercises to reduce belly fat, unfortunately this is the age-old myth. People think they can get abs, and just abs.” So while crunches won’t erase your belly fat, hours of steady-state cardio also isn’t the best option.
I just want to know if it really helps lose weight eating high protein breakfast till the moment I just wake up in the morning, drink coffee and start off my day eating nothing until noon as a way to take off some extra pounds.

I learned that this book is basically a Mediteranian diet which includes the good oils (olive, avacado, seeds, etc.) and very little meat, hardly anything processed, lots of plant foods rich in color. The diet starts out with a 4 day quick start program that promises to rid your body of excess water and gas that cause bloating. I have just completed the 4 days and I learned a few things about food and how important it is to eat every 4 hours. You don’t need to buy to book to get this 4 day quick …more
Great information in this book. It’s a lifestyle more than a diet. The gyst is that you eat healthy and regularly and moderately (400 calories a meal, 4 times a day) and add a monounsaturated fat to each meal. These are the good fats and they target your subcutaneous fat, otherwise known as your stomach flab. I like it because it’s not a diet about what you can’t eat. I’m already firmly in the eat moderately and healthy and exercise camp – no fad diets, you don’t need to eliminate food groups, e …more
Online membership costs $19.95 per month, or $49.50 for three months. But try taking advantage of promotions – like a 21-day free trial – first. “The Flat Belly Diet,” an essential guidebook, is $15.99. Additional books range from $26.99 (“Flat Belly Diet! This diet book is badly outdated. The diet appears to be all right for those who have 20 pounds or less to lose, and for those people, could be a lifestyle eating plan. The optional exercise plan seems adequate, but not really suited for most people with real lives — you know, those people who don’t have 1-2 hours a day several times a week to devote to exercise. Maybe it would just be better if we were more like the Amish — working physically hard all day and didn’t worry about “exercise”. No …more
One MUFA serving with every meal and daily intake of 1,600 calories, although dieters can tailor the plan to their age, gender and activity level. Fruits and veggies, whole grains, nuts, beans, seeds and lean protein are emphasized. There are two parts: a four-day “anti-bloat” jumpstart, and a four-week eating plan. The book includes extensive meal plans, recipes and grocery lists, minimizing guesswork and planning. Though both men and women can follow Flat Belly, it’s geared toward a female audience – and women will likely favor the style of the book. There is, however, a separate book for men; the plans are nearly identical, but men get more calories.
Soup — we’re talking broth-based, not creamy — has a lot going for it. It’s full of water, which fills you up with the fewest possible calories. It’s hot, which prevents you from eating too much. Have it before a meal, and soup can take up space that might have gone to higher-calorie foods. You can also make a satisfying, low-calorie meal out of soup alone by adding chicken, fish, cut-up vegetables, or beans.
Exercise is encouraged but not a must on this diet. Chapter 10 includes an exercise plan designed by a Prevention staffer. The regimen highlights a one-month walking program, plus basic strength training and core exercises using light weights.
“Middle-age spread” can appear at any age, but women may notice it most as they hit 50. Even if the number on the scale is the same as it has always been, your waistline may expand as your proportion of body fat to lean mass changes. The good news is that you can take measures to minimize belly fat, even after you hit the half-century mark.
Being physically active is a key in losing belly fat and should be combined with healthy nutrition. If you only eat foods that seem to target belly fat without exercising, you will see much slower results.
Eggs, plain yogurt (Greek yogurt is higher in protein than regular), 1/2 cup of beans or lentils, 4 oz tofu or tempeh, 1/2 cup quinoa. Keep in mind that most food contains protein and your body can only assimilate about 25 grams at a time, so if you are planning your meals around whole plant based foods, you will get enough protein (for example, kale has 2.9g of protein in 1 cup, sweet potato has 2.1g in 1 cup), and so forth.
Your weight is largely determined by how you balance the calories you eat with the energy you burn. If you eat too much and exercise too little, you’re likely to pack on excess pounds — including belly fat.
Getting rid of your belly bulge is important for more than just vanity’s sake. Excess abdominal fat-particularly visceral fat, the kind that surrounds your organs and puffs your stomach into a “beer gut”-is a predictor of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and some cancers. If diet and exercise haven’t done much to reduce your pooch, then your hormones, your age and other genetic factors may be the reason why. Read on for 11 possible reasons why your belly fat won’t budge.
3. Strengthen your shoulders. Strong shoulders will prevent you from hunching forward. To target this area, try the overhead press. Start with dumbbells at shoulder height, feet firmly on the floor. Slowly press the dumbbells straight up until your arms are fully extended. Don’t arch your back. Hold, and then lower.
1. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): This type of exercise is your key to melting belly fat fast. HIIT is highly effective for all over weight loss, particularly removing stubborn belly fat. If you are not eating right, you have reached menopause or you are not losing weight you should do these exercises. Don’t let the name scare you as it is you who determines the intensity. It is your perceived exertion that counts.
Slice up fresh ginger and use it in stir-fries, soups, and sauces to give a bit of a “kick” to your food and boost your health at the same time. Add it towards the end of the cooking so that less gingerol is lost in the cooking process but that it heats up enough to release antioxidants.
One of the reasons your metabolism isn’t burning away fat as efficiently as you’d like? Look to your magnesium levels. This essential micronutrient is required for the body to produce and store energy, and also helps boost lipolysis (a process by which your body releases fat from its stores to use as energy)—yet 75 percent of Americans do not get their RDA of this important metabolism-boosting mineral. Just a half cup of pumpkin seeds provides nearly 100 percent of your daily magnesium needs.
Reach for broccoli, chia seeds, kale and collard greens for fiber, protein and calcium. And fill out the rest of your diet with nuts and seeds — especially almonds — nonfat dairy, lentils and beans, fish, chicken and turkey breast and lots of fresh veggies to ensure you’re getting the fiber, protein and calcium you need.
Protein drinks are great ways to get a monster dose of belly-busting nutrition into a delicious, simple snack. But most commercial drinks are filled with unpronounceable chemicals that can upset our gut health and cause inflammation and bloat. And the high doses of whey used to boost protein levels can amplify the belly-bloating effect. The Zero Belly solution: Try vegan protein, which will give you the same fat-burning, hunger-squelching, muscle-building benefits, without the bloat. (Here’s a complete guide to easy-to-digest plant proteins.)
An advantage for women is that they naturally carry less visceral belly fat then men do with similar BMI’s, but that all goes out the window once they hit menopause. And for men, there’s no easy way to become a woman besides sitting through the Twilight series…
