2. Sweep: Start with basic abs tuck (standing crunch). For that you have to lift one knee using the abs, and bend the other knee to sit slightly on the ground. Bring the rib cage to the bellybutton so that the spine is in C-curve position. Simultaneously, squeeze the oblique on one side to crunch while reaching down for the opposite foot.
The initial four-day anti-bloat regimen is the most restrictive part of the program, capping daily calories at 1,200. It’s touted as a clean and simple way of eating that eliminates ingredients that promote unnecessary fluid retention and gas. Each day, you’ll have four 300-calorie meals that adhere to a rigid list of acceptable food and drink. That means lots of baby carrots, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, skim milk, extra-virgin olive oil, sunflower seeds, applesauce, chicken breast, organic deli roast turkey, tilapia and fresh or dried basil. You’ll also have 2 daily liters of homemade “Sassy Water,” which the authors claim “helps calm and soothe your GI tract.” It contains ingredients such as ginger, cucumber and mint leaves. Off limits: alcohol, coffee, tea, hot cocoa and acidic fruit juices, chewing gum, fatty foods, salt, broccoli and Brussels sprouts, and anything seasoned with barbecue sauce, horseradish, garlic, chili pepper, black pepper or other spices.
Plenty of other studies point to nuts as a waist-friendly addition to your diet, as long as you don’t go overboard. Chalk it up to their fiber, their protein, and their “good” fat, which may increase the body’s sensitivity to insulin, aiding weight loss. Walnuts are one of the best non-fish sources of omega-3 fatty acids, and almonds provide extra benefit in the form of fat-busting calcium.
In addition to structured exercise, commit to a lifestyle that’s physically active. Take up a hobby, such as dance or golf, that keeps you moving. Fidgeting as well as walking regularly also helps increase your daily calorie burn so you control belly fat.
10. Get a bonus ab workout. Stand as much as possible when doing weight-lifting exercises. That way your abs work too. “They help to balance and stabilize your body,” says Tammy Strunk, an Emmaus, PA, fitness instructor. Concentrate on keeping your abs tight and maintaining good posture, but don’t hold your breath.
Too much sodium can lead to big-time belly bloating and there’s a good chance you are already getting far more than you need. (Psst! Trying to de-bloat? Check out 24 Ways to Shrink Your Belly in 24 Hours) “Eat less processed foods high in salt, such as bread, pizza, and condiments. Focus on consuming more whole foods or foods lower in sodium,” contributes Miller. “Read the Nutrition Facts label to find how much sodium is in each serving of the food or beverage. Very Low Sodium is 35 milligrams or less per serving; Low-Sodium is 140 milligrams or less per serving; Reduced (or less) sodium is at least 25 percent less sodium per serving than the usual sodium level.”
During the jump-start phase, readers are instructed to avoid salt, processed foods, high-carb foods such as pasta and bagels, and gas-producing foods such as cabbage, onions, and legumes. Followers of the Flat Belly Diet are also told to avoid coffee, tea, sugar alcohols, and carbonated drinks, and instead drink two liters of “sassy water” (a mix of ginger root, cucumber, lemon, and mint leaves) every day.

Foods that are rich in water take up more room in your gut. This signals the body that you’ve had enough to eat and leaves less room for other foods. Many raw fruits and vegetables are full of water and nutrients and low in calories. Watermelon is a great example. It’s a good source of the antioxidant lycopene and gives you some vitamin A and C, too.

Tight deadlines, bills, your kids — whatever your source of stress, having too much of it may make harder for you to drop unwanted pounds, especially from your middle. And it’s not just because you tend to reach for high-fat, high-calorie fare when you’re stressed, though that’s part of it. It’s also due to the stress hormone cortisol, which may increase the amount of fat your body clings to and enlarge your fat cells. Higher levels of cortisol have been linked to more visceral fat.
Remember though, that exercise can never compensate for a bad diet. For long term results, the best approach to losing weight and shedding belly fat is still a combination of a balanced diet and the proper exercise –- there’s just no way around this.
Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin which is known to increase metabolism. Capsaicin increases the internal heat of the body, and in order to increase heat, energy is needed, and thus cayenne pepper contributes to increase metabolism. Also some studies suggest that vinegar may help the body break down fat, hence you can find it in some lists.
Belly fat isn’t just that pesky pudge over your waistband — it can be a serious health risk. While some of your belly fat is that pinchable, under-the-skin kind (which can be annoying, but not a serious health concern) some of it is visceral fat, which surrounds your internal organs, pushes your abdominal wall out to create that lovely “beer belly” appearance, and directly contributes to heart disease.
What this means is fat cells that have more beta-receptors than alpha-receptors are relatively easy to mobilize (they respond favorably to catecholamines), whereas fat cells that have more alpha-receptors than beta are not (they don’t respond favorably to them).

Put a tape measure around your bellybutton. Make note of the number. Then, take your height in inches and divide it by 2. This is the number you need to pay attention to. If your waist size is bigger than that number, your health is in danger.
If you like to snack between your meals, you can’t go wrong with low-sugar yogurts or cottage cheese, fresh fruit, pre-cooked meat, reduced fat cheese, raw nuts, low-carb protein bars or whole-grain crackers. The main thing to consider when picking any food or meal is your total daily calorie intake — you must consume fewer calories than you burn to shift your belly fat. If you don’t feel like you’re making progress, you’re probably eating too much and not exercising enough, so drop your calories a little and start training more.

Drinking excess alcohol can cause you to gain belly fat — the beer belly. However, beer alone isn’t to blame. Drinking too much alcohol of any kind can increase belly fat, because alcohol contains calories. Although some research suggests wine might be an exception, if you drink alcohol, do so only in moderation.
The lower belly is one of those seriously frustrating body parts, and it’s not even an entire body part, it’s part of a body part – the lower bit of your tummy. This vexing semi-body part is the bane of anyone who’s lost weight, toned up, put in the hard work, done everything right, but just can’t seem to shift that lower belly bulge. Arrgh! I have never heard that any of those things help Paige. To me it’s more about the 80/20 rule. Basically a small amount of things create the biggest impact. I keep my focus on my macros – Protein, Fat, Carb ratios. This had been the most effective thing for me. I don’t get cause up in worrying if I eat a piece of fruit here or there. Here’s a post that may help from my facebook account… https://www.facebook.com/naturallyloseweightfast/posts/572959539456583?stream_ref=10
According to recent studies, instead of working out for hours or running a few miles, doing short bursts of active exercises is very helpful in reducing stubborn fat. For example, if you are walking on a treadmill, randomly increase the speed for a few seconds and get back to walking.
However, there is research backing up the claims made about MUFAs. In a number of studies it has been shown that replacing saturated fats in the diet with monounsaturated fats results in a small weight loss, and an improved cholesterol profile.
“Often times, women make changes to their diet without fully understanding why they are making them or the implications,” Hayim describes. “They hear things on the news, read things in a magazine, and quickly make changes without proper education first. Many of my clients come to me upset and complaining, swearing they have done everything to try and lose that belly weight. Some of them have ‘cut out gluten and dairy,’ or have even ‘become a vegan’ in an effort to lose weight,” she explains. “However, when we review their diet intake, I learn that they are now consuming much more calorically-dense—and sometimes nutrient-depleted—foods, which has resulted in weight gain. Before making [drastic] dietary changes, get educated or talk to a health professional.” If you want to make less-risky changes, start with these 30 Best Breakfast Habits.
Starting your day with a healthy breakfast is a great way to prevent cravings for unhealthy food later in the day. Don’t go by the sweet taste of cinnamon, it won’t increase your fat. In fact, cinnamon will help reduce your overall body fat including the belly fat. Cinnamon is a thermogenic. It means, cinnamon tends to produce heat through metabolic stimulation. Thus cinnamon makes you burn your fat. So, include 1 tsp. of ground cinnamon to your daily diet in order to increase your metabolism. Take ground cinnamon and not the cinnamon bark oil which may lead to ulcers, mouth sores and mouth burning when consumed. Cinnamon is one spice that you can cook with any food.
Diet to lose belly fat by eating more foods that are good sources of monounsaturated fatty acids, proven to be an effective way to lose stomach weight. Foods such as peanut butter, nuts (particularly macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds, walnuts and almonds) and green and black olives are touted for their ability to burn belly fat.
Fat doesn’t just sit in your body, it actually stores toxins and can affect hormone balance. As Kristen Hairston, MD, assistant professor of endocrinology and metabolism at Wake Forest School of Medicine, puts it: fat makes “lots of nasty substances.”
