Coconut oil is made up of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), whereas many vegetable and seed oils are comprised of long-chain triglycerides (LCTs). Studies indicate that many of coconut oil’s benefits are mainly due to its high quantity of MCTs. MCTs are easily digestible, quickly converted into energy by your liver rather than being stored as fat, and may stimulate your body’s metabolism helping you to lose belly fat. Don’t have a lot of time? Try these ways to bust belly fat in just one day.
If you don’t like running, try jogging instead. Research suggests that jogging is more effective in breaking down unwanted fat when compared to weightlifting. This is a form of aerobic exercise that is extremely useful for fighting obesity and staying fit.
The book begins with a detailed discussion about the two primary types of body fat: subcutaneous and visceral fat. The subcutaneous fat is the fat underneath your skin, and the visceral fat is the inner fat that surrounds your organs. There is no disputing the fact that visceral fat is the most dangerous one for our health. The error that this diet makes is stating that it’s the most difficult fat to lose and that the only way to minimize it is to eat the right kind of fat. Visceral fat is actually easier to lose than subcutaneous fat and can be lost without any changes to your diet. In fact, studies have shown a reduction in visceral fat with moderate exercise and very little weight loss. Research shows that the ideal approach to decreasing visceral fat is to focus on increasing your activity level, decreasing your intake of sugar and refined carbohydrates, consuming complex carbohydrates and lean meats in place of refined carbohydrates, limiting your intake of alcohol, and consuming polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats in place of saturated and trans fats. Unfortunately, this diet only focuses on monounsaturated fats (MUFA).

Don’t be surprised. Although it is a fat, coconut oil can actually help lose your belly fat! I’ll tell you how. This oil extracted from coconut has a unique combination of fatty acids. It has a positive effect on your metabolism too. Coconut oil is high on medium chain triglycerides. The medium chain fatty acids are metabolized differently from long chain fatty acids. These fatty acids directly go to the liver from your digestive tract, where they are used in one of the two ways- either as energy or are converted into ketone bodies. Ketone bodies are three water-soluble biochemical compounds that are produced by the liver using fatty acids when you fast or reduce your food intake. These are used by body cells as energy instead of glucose. So when you want to follow low carb diet to lose fat, coconut oil can help you a lot.
Your weight is largely determined by how you balance the calories you eat with the energy you burn. If you eat too much and exercise too little, you’re likely to carry excess weight — including belly fat.
Use it to lose belly fat: It’s fine to enjoy a glass of wine or clear liquor every so often with a meal. But avoid soda and sugary mixers, like those used for daiquiris and margaritas. The good news? There’s no need to cut out booze completely. In fact, a 2010 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that normal-weight women who consumed a light or moderate amount of alcohol gained less weight and had a lower risk of becoming overweight or obsess during nearly 13 years of follow-up than even non-drinkers. (That’s why moderate alcohol consumption is one way to maintain a healthy weight over time.)
If you were having a guest come stay with you, you would probably be prepared with certain foods to curb appetites, an idea of how their visit with affect your workout schedule, and some other logistical things. But why aren’t you ever thinking about Aunt Flo, a regular visitor? Many women forget that their hormonal cycles can put a temporary halt on flat belly dreams. “If you notice yourself getting bloated or pudgy about every month, your period may be to blame. Female hormones follow a cyclical schedule and often produce a bloating effect. If you’re close to or on your period, cut yourself some slack,” St. John reminds us. Better yet, try some of these foods to ease your PMS symptoms pronto.
Zero Belly Diet panelist Martha Chesler did just this as part of her Zero Belly program, and the results were astonishing. “I saw changes immediately,” she reports. In less than six weeks on the program, Martha dropped over 20 pounds and an astonishing seven inches from her middle by combining the Zero Belly Foods with a pre-breakfast walk.
You don’t have to go low-carb to ditch those extra pounds around your waist in a short period of time. In fact, opting for more whole grains might just get you there faster. Researchers at Tufts University have linked eating three or more daily servings of whole grains to as much as a 10 percent reduction in visceral body fat, the kind that ups your risk for chronic diseases, like diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Water is the elixir of life. It is a very effective tool to get rid of excess fat. Have at least eight glasses of water a day or follow the following formula to calculate your ideal intake as it can differ for people of different weights.
A: You are correct: Cleaning up your diet and adopting a regular exercise schedule (a mixture of cardio and weight training) is essential for losing belly fat, but there’s one secret that’s even more effective. By strategically changing characteristics of your diet, you can actually target specific regions of body fat. And I’m not talking about some late-night-infomercial type cure for belly fat; this is based on real scientific research.
Thank you so much for providing such an amazing web page. I wanted to ask your opinion on whether I should either eat foods to gain weight or lose weight overall to lose belly fat. I am a 5’2, 23 year old woman and I weigh 100lbs. I’m very skinny so I want to gain muscle to get a curvier looking figure. However, though I am slim I have a slightly pudgy belly and side handles so I want to lose those as well. Is there a way for me to gain the weight I need to build muscle and loose belly fat as well? Thanks in advance. 🙂
Hi Jason, I am a 50 year old female, and have just spent 3 hours viewing your videos. I will be talking to my doctor this week and hope to get stated soon. I’ve had a Kidney transplant, and am taking prednisone as part of my anti-rejection therapy. This is a steriod, and it makes it hard for me to loss weight. I have been holding on to 40 pounds since my transplant March of 2011. Prednisone is known for redistributing the fat cells to the middle area. I hope this works for me. thanks for all the great info! Char

Stress skyrockets your levels of cortisol, often called “the belly fat” hormone because it signals to the body to store fat around your waist. Add the daily stressors of living our modern lifestyle and you see how cortisol can be constantly coursing through your veins. This perma-stress mode isn’t good for a lot of healthy reasons, your tummy being just one of them, so it’s important to take time every day to de-stress. Yoga, meditation, walking, journaling, doing a hands-on hobby, or playing a musical instrument are all great time-tested methods. (Hint: Know what isn’t? Watching television. The boob tube actually increases your levels of cortisol!)
Rather than scarfing down meals, make a point of chewing each bite at least 10 times before swallowing. “The body has to work overtime to break down food in the stomach and intestines, which can lead to major gas and indigestion,” Dr. Reichman says. Plus, when you eat fast, you’re more prone to swallowing air, which can ratchet up your risk of developing a potbelly.

This Asian veggie dish is made by fermenting a blend of cabbage, radishes, and scallions with a seasoned paste of red pepper, salted shrimp, or kelp (koji) powder. Fermented foods are great for healing your gut thanks to the high levels of probiotics, but the unique strains found in kimchi may also help you stay slim: Researchers at Kyung Hee University in Korea induced obesity in lab rats by feeding them a high-fat diet. The group that got a Lactobacillus brevis supplement— the culture strain found in kimchi—was able to suppress the diet-induced increase in weight gain by 28 percent! If kimchi isn’t your thing, also consider adding one of these 18 Probiotic Foods For A Healthier Gut to your diet.

My criticism of the data in the book is that it is based on a Yale ‘study’ which involved a VERY small number of participants. It’s difficult to even CALL this a ‘study’, with participants numbering in the 2-digit range! However, if this method of weight loss rings your chimes, it’ll work for you. The authors state that one will lose weight, even without exercise, though they indicate that exercise is preferable. I usually like anything from the Prevention magazine folks, but this one is just ok …more

10. Stay Motivated. Looking at your belly or in the mirror gives you inaccurate feedback. What you see is influenced by food intake, water retention, light and your own perception. Self-image issues can make the last one tricky.
