Alcohol of all types is full of sugar, and sugar leads to fat. If you’ve managed to cut the sugar out of your life but still indulge in regular alcoholic beverages, you could be sabotaging yourself and not even know it. You may see a study now and then that says one alcoholic drink a day is good for the body because it helps you relax, or it thins the blood. But what those studies don’t talk about is the cumulative effect that has on the body, and whether or not you’d be better off in the stomach area by not having that drink each day.
Add strength training to your exercise regimen three times a week. Strength training builds muscles, which assist in fat loss. More metabolically active than fat, muscle raises the resting metabolism to increase calories burned. Increased caloric burn equates to weight loss. Furthermore, toned muscles change the shape of your body and improve your posture, making your belly appear flatter. Focus on completing eight to 10 exercises per strength session that target the abdominals, back, butt, chest, shoulders, arms and legs.
The Flat Belly Diet has two phases, a four-day “anti-bloat” phase with specific foods and drinks, and a four-week eating plan during which women eat about 1,600 calories a day. There’s a Flat Belly Diet for men that’s similar, but allows for more calories. The Flat Belly Diet emphasizes eating foods that are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), along with plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Obese people who consumed a tablespoon or two of vinegar daily for eight weeks showed significant decreases in body fat, particularly visceral fat, according to a 2009 Japanese study. “One theory is that the acetic acid in the vinegar produces proteins that burn up fat,” explains Pamela Peeke, professor of medicine at the University of Maryland and author of Fight Fat After 40.
The Flat Belly Diet works in two stages. The first stage is an “anti-bloat” stage that lasts for four days and the second stage follows with a four week eating plan. Basically, participants in the Flat Belly Diet have one MUFA serving to go along with each meal with fruits, vegetables, nuts and the like being highly emphasized. When you sign up for the program you will receive a 4-day jumpstart plan to help banish bloat, 3 super slimming secrets, 18 recipes for breakfast lunch and dinner, and a mix and match guide to help you create your own dishes.
Cardio is one of the most effective ways to burn calories and shed unwanted flab from your body. Cardio exercises are immensely helpful in reducing belly fat. The study assessed the effects of consuming a breakfast meal with or without a hot ginger beverage (2 g ginger powder dissolved in a hot water) on energy expenditure, feelings of appetite and satiety in overweight men.
Almonds, peanuts, walnuts, pistachios — at GH, we’re nuts about nuts! People who snack on nuts may have lower abdominal fat than those who munch on carb-based treats, according to a 2015 study in the Journal of the American Heart Association. Nuts are rich in monounsaturated fats, a heart-healthy (and more satisfying) pick than their grain-based counterparts.
Egg whites are protein-rich sources that can help with burning belly fat, according to Tom Venuto. A one-ounce serving of dried egg whites contain 23 grams of protein. A fresh egg white contains 11 grams.
That old diet adage that only eating two meals a day will help you lose weight doesn’t ring true either – experts say missing a meal slows down your metabolism so the calories you are taking in aren’t used effectively.

Hey Yvette. One word… supplement. If you’re strict vegan (no animal foods) than things like hemp protein powder, soy protein and others are good. Bump healthy fat intake with nuts and avocados. Beans are also good thing to add to diet. If you are simply vegetarian and don’t eat “dead” than things like eggs and whey are great in order to get adequate protein. Hope this helps
You may have an apple-shaped or a pear-shaped body structure. Accumulation of fat occurs differently for different people, it actually depends on the body structure. For those whose bodies are pear-shaped, the fat tends to accumulate in the lower part of the body, like the buttocks. But for those whose bodies are apple-shaped, your body tends to store fat around the middle section, thus resulting in fat accumulation around the belly. You must know that there are two types of belly fat – visceral, which accumulates around the abdominal organs, and subcutaneous, which occurs between the skin and abdominal wall.

Nearly everyone can benefit from cinnamon in its traditional role. Stir some into your coffee, tea, or yogurt to add sweetness without adding calories.
As you get older, your body changes how it gains and loses weight. Both men and women experience a declining metabolic rate, or the number of calories the body needs to function normally. On top of that, women have to deal with menopause. “If women gain weight after menopause, it’s more likely to be in their bellies,” says Jensen, M.D., professor of medicine in the Mayo Clinic’s endocrinology division. In menopause, production of the hormones estrogen and progesterone slows down. Meanwhile, testosterone levels also start to drop, but at a slower rate. This shift in hormones causes women to hold on to weight in their bellies. The good news: you can fight this process. Read on.
5. Try Callanetics. Gale Maleskey, 53, of Emmaus, PA, swears by this program. It helped her maintain a 28-inch waist. “After just two weeks, I realized I was tightening up.” Callanetics crunches resemble most others, but there’s a subtle difference: A very slight, gentle pulsing motion keeps your ab muscles continuously contracted. Callanetics DVDs are available at amazon.com.
