Around the time of menopause, estrogen levels drop and fat redistributes away from the lower body, where it served as a fuel reserve for childbirth and breastfeeding, to the abdomen. This fat that expands your belly is likely visceral, or intra-abdominal fat, surrounding internal organs. It increases the risk of disease.
Consult your doctor before changing your diet and exercise if you have a chronic disease or joint problems. The doctor may ask that you workout with a physical therapist to avoid doing harmful exercises or seek the aid of a nutritionist.
Maintain a moderately aggressive calorie deficit, balance your macronutrient intake, use weightlifting to preserve (and even build) muscle while you lose fat, and you’ll eventually have that washboard stomach.
Sure, ketchup is tasty, but it’s also a serious saboteur when it comes your weight loss efforts. Ketchup is loaded with sugar — up to four grams per tablespoon — and bears little nutritional resemblance to the fruit from which it’s derived. Luckily, swapping out your ketchup for salsa can help you shave off that belly fat fast. Fresh tomatoes, like those used in salsa, are loaded with lycopene, which a study conducted at China Medical University in Taiwan links to reductions in both overall fat and waist circumference. If you like your salsa spicy, all the better; the capsaicin in hot peppers, like jalapeños and chipotles, can boost your metabolism, too.

I can still remember how hard I worked in the gym over a summer vacation and packed on 30+ lbs. of lean muscle for my senior year in high school. I kept asking myself, “what is the best diet for belly fat?”
Are you committed to the work needed to lose belly fat? “Reducing belly fat takes a combination approach of a low-calorie diet that is high in fiber and low in carbohydrates and sugar along with cardiovascular and weight training,” Dr. Kashyap says. “If you are willing to do the work, you can move past genetics and lose it.”

Getting enough sleep helps regulate your stress hormones, controls your appetite better, gives you more energy for physical exercise, may help reduce cravings for sweets and tends to decrease emotional eating.
Your weight is largely determined by how you balance the calories you eat with the energy you burn. If you eat too much and exercise too little, you’re likely to carry excess weight — including belly fat.
Does switching to diet sodas help? Although some research has suggested that people who drink artificially sweetened sodas as part of a calorie-restricted diet do lose weight, other studies have suggested that diet soft drinks could even lead to weight gain.
It is recommended to take around 6 grams of fish oil a day, which is around 1 tablespoon of fish oil. Alternatively, you can eat fish such as salmon, mackerel, and tuna twice a week to get enough omega 3 fatty acids.
1. Make a tennis date. A few sets of backhands and forehands, and you’ll feel it around your middle. “Every time you turn to make a stroke,” says Dr. Nagler, “you strengthen the oblique muscles on either side of your abdomen.”
Sugary beverages appear to be even worse than high-sugar foods. Because your brain doesn’t process liquid calories the same way it does solid ones, you’re likely to end up consuming too many calories later on and storing them as fat (47, 48).
Fiber is amazing when it comes to helping digestion. Organic fiber cereals actually prevent constipation and help you get that flat stomach quickly if consumed regularly in breakfast. Substitute high fiber oats with any traditional cereal and that flat belly isn’t far.
1. Stand up straight. Heeding Mom’s advice can make you look 5 pounds thinner (and your abs flatter) instantly. To straighten up, imagine a string tugging you from the top of your head toward the ceiling.

Eggs are one of nature’s few good food sources of vitamin D, which research also suggests may play an important role in keeping weight off.
Hi Pattie, there are situations in which cold drink is better than a warm drink and vice versa. You can find more information about this subject in my article “Which Is Better: Drinking Cold Or Warm Water?“. Same applies to ginger tea.

You should avoid skipping meals. You may think that skipping meals will help you lose weight, but it won’t. It’ll actually put your body into starvation mode, and it’ll slow your metabolism down quite a bit.
