“The culprit making your tummy bloat? It could be the salt in your diet. Use natural sea salt or kosher salt, which is lower in sodium teaspoon for teaspoon than traditional table salts. And stay away from soy sauce: Even low-sodium soy sauce is still high in sodium and will cause practically instant bloating.
That means Pink Lady over Granny Smith, watermelon over honeydew, red grapes over green ones. The higher levels of nutrients called flavonoids—particularly anthocyanins, compounds that give red fruits their color—calm the action of fat-storage genes. This first one is a no-brainer: Throw out all processed foods in your kitchen. Research shows that eating more whole foods with monounsaturated fats (MUFAS) fight stomach fat. These would be foods like avocado, nuts and seeds (preferably raw) and whole grains. Many MUFAs are liquid in room temperature like olive oil and safflower oil.

Accidentally purchased this thinking it was the hardcover cookbook in paperback. (Checked out the hardcover cookbook from the library and loved it) The print for this paperback is so small I need to wear my cheater glasses and sadly NONE of the recipes I liked from the cookbook are in this book because it barely includes 1/4 of the recipes. I did like the added exercise program but the other 2/4 of the book is a waste of space. Hardcover cookbook is definitely a better choice if you’re interested. It explains the diet with less chapters and you can actually read it!

The theory: Monounsaturated fatty acids, or MUFAs, target and destroy belly fat while promoting fullness and preventing overeating, according to the diet’s creators, former Prevention magazine editor Liz Vaccariello and registered dietitian Cynthia Sass. These plant-based fats are found in foods like nuts, seeds, chocolate, avocados and olive oil – and the “Flat Belly Diet” (Rodale, 2008) calls for a precisely specified serving at every meal and snack. Unlike saturated fats, which harden and clog the arteries, MUFAs keep blood vessels soft and pliable after digestion. In addition to emphasizing these healthy fats, the Flat Belly Diet is modeled after a Mediterranean eating approach. The key ingredients – fruits, veggies, legumes, whole grains, olive oil and fish – are thought to help keep weight off.

7. Work against gravity. Using an L-seat at the gym to do hanging leg lifts is one of the best exercises for your midsection. You’re using the weight of your own legs against gravity. Keep your back against the seat, and don’t swing your legs. For a more advanced move, keep your legs straight as you lift them.
