The key for how to lose belly fat is about making the most out of your meals – that means getting lots of and vitamins, not calories! Making sure you eat properly is vital for your health (not to mention weight loss) at all meals, but sadly, lunch is often the meal that we end up skipping the most. Whether it’s because we’re too busy to eat or opt for larger breakfasts or dinners instead, we often give lunch a miss. Or even when we do allow ourselves a little bit to eat in the middle of the day, it’s often a quick and hasty affair. That means unhealthy food choices and not allowing our bodies enough time to digest properly. All of which can cause health problems. So far, so good. As a student, my eating habits are lacking, to say the least. I don’t cook [though I like to], I eat out a lot, I got out with my friends and have a drink or two, and I eat a lot of things high in sodium. SO, all of those things have been bad for my health – and my dress size. I picked this book up the other day at Target on a whim and I actually really like it. As of this writing, I’m on Day 3 of the 4 Day Anti-Bloat jumpstart, and it’s already made a noticeable difference. The …more

Several studies show that alcohol can increase appetite and food intake, and certain types of alcohol are associated with belly fat specifically. If you’re an ale aficionado, be especially mindful of your consumption: One 2013 study review from Denmark suggests that intake of beer is associated with abdominal obesity, while a German study found that lifetime consumption of alcohol is positively related to abdominal fat in 160,000 women. (Not to mention, drinking too much alcohol can mess with your fitness goals.)

3. Exercise Ball Crunch. This is one of the most effective ways to strengthen and flatten abs.  Studies show this exercise is 40% more effective than regular ab crunches as it targets smaller muscles for flat toned abs including the oblique’s for a small waist and the outermost muscles that your typical ab crunch may miss.  To begin, lie down on the ball positioning it under the lower back.  Place arms behind your head.  Tighten your abs as you lift your torso off the ball while keeping the ball stable.  Lower back down and repeat 15 times with 1-3 sets.

Moreover, the discovery that obesity actually has health-related conditions like diabetes has jump-started a million-dollar industry on weight loss products. From popular diets to supplements and even exercise accessories, the customer only has to look around to find a variety of fad options to choose from. This is not even counting the medical procedures available for the very obese and those who have not lost weight through medicine, exercise or diet.

Sara is a Boston-based registered dietitian who works with clients to improve their health by optimizing nutrition. “It is a myth that bloating in the stomach is from fluid accumulation in healthy adults, because the abdomen is not a place where fluids accumulate first,” Jensen says. “Instead, you would see it in your feet or ankles as long as you are upright.”

Maintaining your weight loss is all about balance, you should try to follow the 80/20 rule. Focus 80 percent of the time on eating healthy, belly-friendly foods that shrink the waistline and fight inflammation. Then 20 percent of the time, you have room to veer off track a bit. This 20 percent is your splurge. You may choose to have one day a week where you have a splurge meal, or you may opt for a small snack twice a week where you don’t exactly make the healthiest choice.

Hundreds of crunches are the answer, right?! Not so much. Jade Jenny, head coach and owner of Champlain Valley CrossFit says, “There are really no exercises to reduce belly fat, unfortunately this is the age-old myth. People think they can get abs, and just abs.” So while crunches won’t erase your belly fat, hours of steady-state cardio also isn’t the best option.

Red is one of the best colors for weight loss. That’s because the color is due to higher levels of nutrients called flavonoids—particularly anthocyanins—which calm the action of fat-storage genes. In fact, red-bellied stone fruits like plums boast phenolic compounds that have been shown to “turn off” fat genes, and from pectin—a gelatin-like type of fiber found in the cell walls of fruits that limits the amount of fat your cells can absorb.

The idea of monounsaturated fatty acids is a good idea. I do agree with that. BUT, while the 4-day kickstart did help me lose 4 pounds and 2 inches, I found that it was hard to find really healthy, satisfying meals in the recipes and there was a lot of bread/grains and dairy in the recipes, but not so much vegetable variety. It has a lot of carrots, onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Where are the cruciferous green vegetables? I aslo don’t agree with eating non-fat dairy. You need some fat for your brain and hormones. After the 4 days, I regained what I had initially lost. They claim you don’t have to exercise to lose the belly, but that is really far-fetched. I don’t recommend this diet.
